Final Exam Assignment

Final Project: Art 3
Shane Hart

What work in Art 3 am I most proud about?
The art I am most proud of would be my first prisma color drawing. I really liked the way I colored the hair and added textures throughout the image. The drawing took me a while to complete and was satisfying when I was finally able to be done with it. I really love prismas and I hope I can learn more about them and work with them more in the future.
The MOST Challenging assignment from class for me was...
Figure drawing. Overall, being able to work out of my comfort zone with different styles is a bit challenging for me and the figure drawing brought that out. I tried 4 different ideas for my project and ultimately ended up drawing my hand piece. I think it was good to try different things and has reminded me that I have a lot I must learn before I'm done.

What did I like from Art 3?
I think this class as a whole was very vital to me. Since this was my first art class, I am glad that I had a teacher who could see my talent and I'm glad we were able to work with many different mediums and styles of art. I think Art 3 was very important to me and I don't have any complaints for it, I would take it again in a heartbeat... but now it's time for AP !! Thank you for a wonderful year, Mrs. Purtee !

Figure Drawing Analysis

1. In this unit, I learned that prismas can be irritating to use depending on how big of a platform you are using. It does take more time to use Prismacolor to color, however I do like the way you have much more control of the lines as well as the different colors that go into each section. So, in this project I learned about patience, and how it important it is to not give up and take the easy way out.

2. When planning my artwork, I tried with different mediums. I tested out charcoal, chalk pastels and markers. In the end, I really liked the freedom I had with Prismas and ultimately decided to use them for the final piece.  I had to make minor anatomy changes while working and ultimatley it turned out the way it is now.

Oil Painting Analysis

1) During this unit, I learned how to use oil paint. I learned that LIQUIN can be used to help smooth out the oil paint and make it easier to control as well as helps it dry faster. I used a drip technique where I added Turpentine to the oil and used different colors to create a rainy color drip effect.
2) For my process, I started with a rough paint sketch of the body and umbrella, then moved in with skin tones, from then I added the dress textures and colors and shaded them. I ended up adding a mixture color background to give it a rainy vibe as opposed to a blank color.
I think my background was super sucessful and I liked the use of colors that I added to it.

Texture Analysis Prisma Project

What textures did you create in your drawing? How did you apply technique/formal elements to create them?
In this picture, I create textures in the hair, the strawberry as well as the cherry and the small berries. I applied the technique of burnishing in the darker parts of her hair to contrast them to the lighter parts and make it stand out more to the eye, I also added lighting effects on everything to make it pop out and look less dull.
What did you learn during this project? Did you overcome any challenges?
During this project, I learned how to use Prismas, actually. This was my first time using them and I am pretty impressed with how it came out. I overcame the challenge of not trying new things, including textures and the pencils in general, overall I like the way the pencils work and I would definitely use them again for future projects!
